Teenaged ballet dancer Anastasiya Kropotkina flees Russia at the height of the Revolution. Arriving in Paris, she rebuilds her life within the emigre community, working with Diaghilev, Pavlova, and other luminaries. Years later, in America, Madame Anastasiya creates an idyllic world for young dancers from troubled backgrounds at her home, Kitezh. When a new boy comes to study with her, he is plunged into Madame's extraordinary life and her passion for her art.
